CLOSED | Call for Entry: Interactive Group Exhibition - "Simple Complexity – The Strength of a Photograph” October 2020
We are excited to announce that our October 2020 online group exhibition, “Simple Complexity – The Strength of a Photograph”, is being curated by Analog Forever Magazine designer, writer, and curator Tim Scott! However, this month we are doing something different. This online exhibition is going to be interactive!
Tim Scott writes: Life is complicated, especially in this sh!tstorm of a year called 2020. There are tens of millions of photographs everywhere and yet very few stand out. The other challenge is that photographs are up to the viewers interpretation. What you interpret or see in one way may be seen completely differently by another who has experienced life differently than you have. Yet, some images have the strength to stand on their own and make an impression or create a conversation on their own–simple in visual, but complex in story–this is what we’re looking for.
PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW CAREFULLY
Image Requirements: We invite you to submit up to two images made using traditional, analog methods, that stop you, that make people take notice and that start conversations. They can be of any subject in any style, but they should most importantly make a statement that is interpretable and can stand on its own. The image should have some kind of strong emotional connection or meaning and be able to stand on its own with or without a title or caption. Any effects or manipulation should be done in camera. Please include with the image submissions a title and a description of the image and what makes it strong/complex to you.
How it Will Work (Updated 10/14/2020):
1) All submissions will be reviewed by Tim Scott, writer and curator for Analog Forever Magazine. The top 14 images will be selected as finalists and will be posted to a page at AnalogForeverMagazine.com. See this link:
2) Each day, beginning on October 17th, Two (2) images from the finalists will be posted to the Analog Forever Magazine social media outlets (Facebook and Instagram) with no image details, and viewers will be asked to share what they think the image is about and why it is powerful to them.
3) At the end of 7 days and once all of the finalist images have been shared the comments will be compiled and all 7 images will again be reviewed by Tim Scott with consideration for the comments and how each image resonated with the AF audience.
4) With this consideration one (1) will be chosen at the winner of this submission challenge as well as one (1) runner up and one (1) honorable mention. The Online Exhibition page will then be updated on October 31st with the final winners, as well as the description of each photograph from the creator as well as select comments from the social media audience submissions.
The deadline for submissions is September 30th, 2020!
