Blue Mitchell, “Jessica”, Film Noir series, 1998, Kodak T-Max P3200

We are excited to announce that our April 2021 online group exhibition, “Noir,” is being curated by independent publisher, curator, educator, and photographer, Blue Mitchell! To enter, all you need to do is read and respond to the following prompt with your analog photography:

Blue Mitchell writes: I fell in love with photography by way of cinematography. While in film school I was enamored with the avant-garde, French New Wave, German Expressionism, and film noir. My early film photography essentially emulated these film movements and they continue to inspire me to this day. When we first started hanging out, my wife showed a little concern about my photography style. She said it was always so dark, both thematically and literally. I’ve always thought this was because my art expression was how I deal with my demons and as a result, I’m a pretty chill, optimistic guy. At any rate, for this Analog Forever exhibit, I thought it would be a good opportunity to celebrate the Noir theme by seeing how our analog community might represent this loose theme. Let’s make a film together, you shoot, I’ll direct.

We invite you to submit up to two photographs for this exhibition that capture the concept of this theme. We offer no limits to the photographs submitted, other than the fact that they are created with analog film or process, B&W or color. The best of these images will be showcased in an online show curated by Blue Mitchell. This online exhibition will go live on our website on April 12th, 2021. About the Curator

Blue Mitchell is an independent publisher, curator, educator, and photographer. Based in Portland, Oregon, he has been involved with many facets of the photographic arts. After Mitchell received his BFA from Oregon College of Art & Craft in 2005 he founded One Twelve Publishing.

One Twelve Publishing is most notably known for its fine art photographic print annual Diffusion (Est. 2009), which focuses on artfully-crafted photo practices. Additionally, One Twelve hosted Plates to Pixels Gallery (2007-2017), publishes the occasional artist book (Contact by Jake Shivery, 2015), and provides an extensive blog with articles, galleries, and a variety of special features.

Submission Guidelines:

Image Specifications:
1) Only .jpg files will be accepted.
2) Images must be 1500px on the shortest side at 72dpi.
3) No photo-shopped borders or watermarks.
4) Only two images may be submitted.
5) Images must be named in the following format: “FirstNameLastName1.jpg”, etc.

Email Specifications:
1) The subject line of your email should state: "Submission: Noir”
2) Please ATTACH your images to the email. Do not embed them. Do not attach a google drive or dropbox link.
3) Please do not send PDF or Text Files. Please put all information into the body of the email.

Specific information needed for each Submission:
1) Your name as you would like it to appear.
2) The Camera and Process used to create your images.
3) Titles for each of your photograph(s). Write out each title exactly as you would like it to appear.
4) Email Address in the text of the email.
5) The Website Address you would like your images linked to.
