Vanessa Leroy writes:

Amid socio-political upheaval, we’re watching as the world rapidly transforms around us yet remains unmoved at the same time. Thinking of who we are as individuals throughout this circumstance, we have to confront issues of injustice by creating a dialogue between our past and present selves. How can we portray the transitory nature of the world around us as we’re in the midst of witnessing these cultural shifts? As we process this sense of uprooting, how can we represent who we are and where we are right now? For those of us who are using photographic processes to create during this time, in what ways have you been using this medium as a way of healing, examining your identity, or documenting change?

Deadline for Submissions is September 30th, 2021

About the Curator

Vanessa Leroy (b. 1996) is a photographer from Waltham, Massachusetts. She holds a BFA in Photography from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She remains on the hunt for new ways of seeing, remembering, and altering the world through photography. She is drawn to image-making because of the power it holds to create nuanced representation for marginalized people and uplift their stories. She sees photography as a tool for social justice, and with it, she hopes to create worlds that people feel as though they can enter and draw from, as well as provide a look into an experience that they may not personally recognize. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, NPR, and exhibited at Gallery Kayafas in Boston, MA.
